Who is it for?

We can all benefit from focusing on our wellness and learning to listen to our bodies – no matter what age we are, or what ailments or challenges we're experiencing. Whether you want a general health tune-up or have specific concerns – chronic or acute naturopathy is a natural way to nurture your body and mind.

By taking a naturopathic approach, you can work towards:

  • A stronger and balanced immune system
  • Balanced hormones -adrenal, thyroid, male and female
  • Better sleep
  • Improved digestion
  • More energy and stamina
  • Minimising stress and anxiety
  • Managing your weight
  • General wellness
  • Healthy menstrual cycles
  • Improved joint health
  • Pain relief
  • Prevention of familial heath conditions
  • Improved cardiovascular health and reduction of risk factors

How does it work?

Naturopathic medicine supports the body's natural healing ability, enabling it to restore healthy functioning and balance. Using a combination of evidence-based approaches – herbal and nutritional medicine, in tandem with diet and lifestyle adjustments – naturopathy promotes wellbeing by helping you to understand and respond to your own body.

Naturopathy is both preventative and proactive and uses modern diagnostic medicine, such as blood and functional gut testing, hand-in-hand with the tools we have from nature, to support our bodies' own repairing mechanisms.

From a practical perspective, we begin with a thorough consultation and any relevant tests, so I can get to know you inside and out.

From there, I'll develop an evolving health plan that outlines where we're heading and how we're going to get there. It's like putting together the pieces of a pretty complicated jigsaw puzzle, except that you're one of a kind!

Importantly, I work collaboratively with your medical and allied health practitioners to ensure you're receiving the best possible care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Individual sleep needs do vary – what's ample for one could be considered a 'bad night' for another. But if your usual quota is no longer cutting it, you need to take action.

Diet is the first place we need to start – most people tend to eat imbalanced meals with too many starchy carbohydrates, too much sugar sneaking in, and not enough fat and protein. That can lead to a glucose spike and crash cycle, and a feeling of endless fatigue. Similarly, you need to look at your water intake. If your fluids in a day tend to mostly consist of coffee and tea, your system could be dehydrated. Given that water is needed to deliver nutrients to your cells and remove waste, your body may be suffering.

Other options include impaired adrenal function, hormonal imbalances including thyroid dysfunction, vitamin and mineral deficiencies such as B12 or iron, food intolerances or sensitivities, and underlying stress or digestive issues. A comprehensive health check is the best place to start, after which we can build a roadmap for getting you back to feeling your best self.

While I do examine your diet and exercise habits, I also take a holistic look at what is happening inside your body, to understand its composition – lean muscle to fat mass- and the many other factors that may be contributing to your weight loss challenges. Underlying issues such as high cortisol (stress), hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, metabolic issues and more, can make it difficult to shift those troubling kilos. By looking at the whole picture we can start to understand what's standing in your way, and build a plan to help you get back to optimal health.

There are lots of reasons why our periods change – age is one factor. The level of hormones in our bodies rises and falls during different phases of our lives; its those hormones which dictate the release of blood and tissue from inside the uterus – different hormone levels, different period experience.

There can, however, be other reasons. For example, we process all our hormones through our liver – if it's not functioning optimally it can cause hormone levels to build up and to recirculate through the body. The result can be painful periods, heavy bleeding, heightened PMS, bloating – all the good stuff! By supporting your liver to do its job properly, and detoxifying your system, we can help get your periods back on track.

Stress is another culprit, because it interferes with the part of the brain that controls the hormones regulating your cycle. The good news is, manage your stress, bring your cortisol levels down, and your periods should return to normal.

Body fat percentage – either too high or too low – will also affect body function, including your periods. Women inherently need more body fat than men, for menstruation and reproductive health. I can help you to understand the right balance for your body.

Whatever the underlying issue, I can help to address the problem and manage the symptoms.

Our libido is connected to our physical, mental and emotional health. It's different for all of us, and it will change throughout life but, if low libido is troubling you, naturopathy can help.

The best place to start isn't by just 'pepping you up', but by understanding what caused your libido to drop in the first place. There are many factors – menopause, stress, depression, adrenal and thyroid health, iron deficiency, to name but a few – that could be responsible.  That's why a comprehensive holistic assessment is the best place to start, so that we're treating the problem, not the symptom. By looking at the whole picture of your lifestyle, diet and general wellbeing, including testing hormone levels, we can put a range of supports in place to get you back where you want to be.

We don't always realise how important our digestive system is to our general wellbeing; its where we absorb the nutrients we need to keep our whole body functioning. Imbalances in the digestive system can lead to symptoms elsewhere in the body – the nervous system, immune system, and skin.

To benefit from the nutrients in the food we eat, our gut has to be healthy and capable of processing them. Experiencing diarrhea and/or constipation, gas, bloating, abdominal pain or heartburn could be a sign that your digestive system needs some support. That might be because of factors such as untreated food sensitivities, bad bacteria overgrowth, stomach acid and/or enzyme deficiency or stress. Getting to the bottom of those challenges could open the door to a much healthier, happier you.

Of course, when it comes to our diet itself, food is fuel; you don't put the wrong fuel in a piece of machinery and expect it to run well… our bodies are no different. I use screening techniques to systematically determine possible causes of your digestive imbalance, so we can develop a sustainable plan individualised to your needs.

Because prevention is better than cure! By optimising your wellbeing, rather than reacting to problems, you can support your body to stay well.  Health checks allow us to understand the specifics of your unique system, and build in supports to maintain and improve your quality of life. In doing so, we can even help reduce the tendency for genetic health conditions to develop early.

Fundamentally, naturopathy seeks to restore the natural functioning of the body through diet and lifestyle recommendations and the use of natural remedies – in doing so we are supporting the body's innate ability to heal itself.
