Discover how you can optimise your fertility

Are you or your partner experiencing reproductive challenges?

Are you undergoing IVF or surgery to assist with conception?

Have you experienced recurrent miscarriages?

Would you like to prepare for a healthy conception and pregnancy?

If the answer is 'yes' to any of these, then you're in the right place.

The best possible start

Preconception care is incredibly important, and not just if you're facing fertility challenges. By nurturing your own health and wellbeing from before the point of conception, you're setting your body – and your baby's – up for the future.

Making healthy life choices will make a difference no matter what stage you're at on your journey to conception – even if you're undergoing IVF or IUI. In fact, naturopathic strategies can be personalised to support your body's specific needs at each stage of support.

Who is it for?

As ever, it takes two! We look at, and support, the health of everyone biologically involved. By doing so, we can give you the best chance of not just conception, but of having a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

While preconception care really is a great choice for absolutely anybody preparing for parenthood, it's particularly important if you:

  • have fertility issues
  • have a history of menstrual irregularity
  • are over the age of 35
  • have health or weight issues
  • are a long-term medication user
  • have faced challenges through previous child-bearing and birth
  • have a family history of genetic disorders.

How does it work?

We'll begin by understanding your unique physiological
and emotional state. I'll take a detailed personal and family
health history and carry out a comprehensive dietary
assessment and, if necessary, may request tests for:

  • Hormonal balance
  • Nutritional de ciency
  • Cellular health and tissue performance.

From there, I'll support you to address the nutritional,
environmental and lifestyle factors which could enhance
your fertility, and help you to understand, and chart, the
stages of your menstrual cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nothing would make me happier than to provide a guarantee that you'll hold a bouncing baby at the end of this process. However, while I've seen my methods work for so many of the couples I've supported, there are no certainties around conception.  What I can promise is that you'll be supported to use some incredibly effective methods to significantly improve your chances of success. Additionally, this support may also be helpful to address other, unrelated health issues.

There are a number of vitamins and minerals you can take to improve your chances of conception, promote a healthy pregnancy and support post-partum recovery. By being proactive about your nutrient intake, even before conception, you can help to give your child the best possible start in life and reduce the risk of complication and birth defects. Supplementation is usually necessary even when consuming a thoughtfully planned, high quality, whole food diet. Supplements typically include Folic Acid, Iron, Iodine, Carnitine, Vitamin D, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Zinc. Only high-quality supplements should be used and supplementation should be prescribed based on individual needs – dosages and length of use will vary. Resist the urge to self-prescribe.

Your 'fertile window' depends on the length of your menstrual cycle – it is the day an egg is released from the ovary and the five days beforehand. To confirm ovulation, you can either chart your basal body temperature (BBT) or use an ovulation predictor kit. BBT is your temperature when you first wake after at least three hours of uninterrupted sleep. To record your BBT, you need to use a basal thermometer, which has a finer scale than a normal thermometer. You are most fertile on the day you experience a temperature spike of about 0.2 degrees – compared with the previous six days- and on the few days before. An ovulation predictor kit detects the surge in luteinising hormone (LH) that occurs in the day or so before you ovulate.

Optimal fertility is achieved when your 'fertile window' corresponds with your lunar fertility – which is when the current phase of the moon coincides with the phase of the moon at the time of your birth. If you were born three days before a full moon, then you might expect to be fertile three days before each full moon.

Tracking your menstrual cycle is an important piece of the conception puzzle. After ovulation, your egg will survive for just 24 hours, while sperm in your fallopian tubes can remain viable for two to three days – timing is everything!  Menstrual charting is a simple process that can help you understand more about your hormonal and reproductive health and identify your most fertile time each month.

At its most basic, it involves keeping track of when your cycle begins (the first day of your period) and ends (the last day before your next period). From there, it's useful to build in information on how you're feeling physically, mentally and emotionally on each day, as well as monitoring bleed patterns, cervical mucous (which changes depending on what hormones are present in your body at different times of the cycle), basal body temperature (which spikes as you ovulate) and presence of the Luteinising Hormone (which triggers ovulation).

By analysing that information, we can start to build a picture of some of the factors possibly affecting your fertility.

Male fertility is directly affected by diet and lifestyle choices. Eat well – a diet high in fruits and vegetables, wholegrains, good fats, proteins, nuts and seeds – and you can boost your fertility. However, the opposite is also true. Fail to nourish your body adequately, and your sperm quality will tell the tale.

Even with a solid diet, supplementation is typically necessary, including nutrients such as selenium, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc. Only high-quality supplements should be used and supplementation should be prescribed based on individual needs – dosages and length of use will vary. Resist the urge to self-prescribe.

There are also a range of other factors at play, including environmental toxins (encountered at home or at work), stress, hormonal balance, immune function and – of course – use of drugs and alcohol, smoking and coffee intake, weight and exercise habits.

The first step to understanding sperm viability is to undertake a semen analysis, which will measure the number of sperm per millimetre (count), how well they move (motility) as well as their shape (morphology).

Treatment plans will vary depending on you or your partner's individual circumstances – including capacity and willingness to make a change – and won't just impact on fertility

Yes, you absolutely can. Naturopathy can support your entire system through the process of IVF, increasing your chances of a successful pregnancy. As an experienced naturopath, I will support your system by using herbal and nutritional medicines that will not interfere with IVF, but which can improve the quality of egg, sperm and uterine lining. I'll care for your nervous and adrenal systems through the emotions and stresses of this time, as well as optimising your nutrition and general wellbeing, through diet and lifestyle support, so that you're in the best possible shape for conception and a healthy pregnancy.
